A Denver man will be interviewed on FOX 31 (KDVR) claiming he regularly sees “UFO’s” over Downtown Denver. The accompanying photo on the FOX 31 website (also shown below) appears to be more like a remote controlled airship than some type of alien craft.

From the KDVR website, “Watch Heidi Hemmat’s story tonight at 9 p.m. to see more of this UFO and what the FAA, NORAD and other government agencies said when we showed them the video. Experts we asked say they have no idea what it is, where it’s coming from or where it’s going.”

Last week we were lucky enough to capture some incredible aerial images of the Denver skyline as the sun set behind the skyscrapers and mountains beyond. As the sun got lower and lower, the sky took on a deeper and deeper orange glow. Situated near the third fairway of Denver’s City Park Golf Course, we were able to capture the stunning sight.

We hovered our camera over the fairway, and looked west as the sun settled below the horizon. We really are lucky to live in a place that provides us with such scenic landscapes. Check out some samples from our skyline shoot below. We just had to share some of these…

Denver’s Highlands neighborhood is currently undergoing major changes, as a wave of new residents breathe new life into the area. Being able to document the transformation of this historical Denver neighborhood, just a stone’s throw from I-25 and a short walk from LoDo, has been an extraordinary experience. We get to see the demolition of old buildings, grading and preparation work on the excavated land, foundations poured and new structures emerging from the ground.

Being able to document these changes through aerial photography, while a unique opportunity, provides a valuable service to design team members and facilitates coordination between the various trades on site. Providing aerial images for your project can help keep construction moving forward at a steady pace, and assist in meeting major project milestones.

We recently had the opportunity to photograph the Flour Mill Lofts near LoDo in Denver. The Flour Mill Lofts is a well known building and is on the National Register of Historic Buildings. Local developer Dana Crawford converted the building into traditional loft residences in 1999. The project consisted of a renovation of the original building, and construction of a new residential building that mimics the style of the original.

These buildings are a staple of the Platte River Valley and are well known to the many commuters who pass by the residential towers on their way to and from work on the 20th Street viaduct. Shooting these classic buildings gave us an opportunity to really showcase just how centrally located the Flour Mill Lofts are, with Coors Field and the incredible Denver Skyline clearly visible just a few blocks away in the background.

To demonstrate just how detailed an 18 megapixel image is, we ventured out to Hirshorn Park in the Denver Highlands to take some high resolution aerial photos. The park is near some popular bars and restaurants such as Lingers, Little Man Ice Cream, Lola, Vita, and Forest Room 5.

With the camera about 80 feet above the ground, we aimed the lens due west and started snapping away. We were thrilled with the results, and we think they speak for themselves. The fall colors also added a bit of spice to the image. But where things get interesting is when you view the image at original size. You can see people riding bicycles on the street, someone walking their dog, and people relaxing in the park. This kind of detail is critical when photographing from above, especially for architects, developers and general contractors. This type of resolution allows for massive prints than can be used for project coordination, renderings and visualizations, and PR and marketing.

Shooting the football fields at Monarch High School in Louisville, Colorado required maintaining a suitable elevation to obtain photos of both the large football field and the adjacent sports diamond. Using First Person View (FPV) goggles, our photographer is able to see exactly what the camera’s lens sees, and communicate the image composition directly with the drone pilot, so position adjustments can be made on the fly to orient the craft properly to capture the best images possible.

These instantaneous position changes allow for a wide variety of images delivered to the client during a single flight. Giving the client a large portfolio of images to choose from is our desired outcome for any project we undertake. The way we see it, the more images the client can preview, the better!

With the fall colors coming on strong the last few days here along the Front Range, we took advantage of the foliage and scheduled time to shoot the Avista Adventist Hospital near Superior. The hospital is situated just southeast of Boulder, so when shooting west the Rocky Mountains provide a gorgeous backdrop to the building. This type of project demonstrates how low altitude photography can provide unique images that are not possible from planes and helicopters; where higher altitude requirements limit the way the mountains can be exhibited as a backdrop in photographs such as these.

A recent project entailed capturing aerial photographs of Barnum East Park, near 6th Avenue and Federal. The park is one of those locations most Denver-ites drive by once a week, if not once a day, but may be a place they have never actually visited. The park is bisected by 6th avenue, and also has another section just east of Federal Boulevard.

While capturing images of the park we also had time to snap a few shots of the Denver skyline just as the sun was coming up over the horizon. I must admit, our city’s skyline is certainly dramatic, and even more so with the glow of the morning sun on its skyscrapers.
